Week 75 Pink Taco (Hard Rock Hotel and Casino)

Welcome back! I can't believe this is week 75 and that you guys keep coming back for more and we are getting more and more hits every week. I know I say this all the time but we appreciate every single person who reads this blog. 

Can you guys believe that Brett has not blogged for 4 entries now? Pretty crazy if you ask me. I am lucky enough though that the past two weeks I have been joined by guest bloggers. This week I went out with my dear friends Adam, Trevor and Chelsie. Everytime we get together it is always a great time, so I knew this would not be any different, but more about that in my review.

What Teray Says...

So as I mentioned above I went out to eat for my weekly dinner with Adam, Trevor, and Chelsie this week. Chelsie suggested Pink Taco and I was thrilled because I love to mix it up once in awhile and do a typical Vegas night. By typical Vegas night I mean hitting up a casino or somewhere on the strip. I, like most locals I know hit up these types of places when we have friends in town. Our crowd is more local places types. :)

It took me the longest time to find a parking space so I was the last to arrive. At the table there already were chips and different salsas, all which were fantastic I might add. I love chips at a restaurant but I hate them at the same time. I love them because of the taste and hate them for how much I eat. 

We started off by picking an appetizer that the four of us could share. We went with appetizer platter which consisted of sweet corn tamales, cheese quesadillas, chicken and carne asada skewers, taquitos and guacamole. I ate one of the quesadillas and one of the tamales, both which were excellent. Everything else looked delicious, but I wanted to leave room for my dinner. 

Oh how could I forget?! For a drink I ordered a margarita and was so pumped that they could make it a skinny marg. It was definitely worth the 2 dollars more for piece of mind of drinking less calories. After I finished the marg I switched to a Bud Light. 

There were so many great things on the menu to choose from but I decided to order the carnitas which are pork tacos. I got three tacos and rice and beans. I probably should have done what I normally do eat half and bring half home, but it was just so delicious that I ate it all in one sitting. 

I honestly cannot tell you what everyone else ordered because I was concentrating so much on my food. Everything looked really good though. 

For dessert we ordered churros. It came with two so we just eat ate half of one. They were the perfect way to end the meal. 

Our service was pretty good and the wait was not long at all. I could tell he was really busy though. The atmosphere was fun and I felt myself dancing to the music that they were playing. Overall, I rate Pink Taco a 4.5 out of 5 for sure! 

What the Guest Blogger Says (Written by Chelise Blaxton) 

This week, while Brett is still deployed, Teray asked Trevor, Adam, and I to be guest bloggers. I was so excited to help out! We decided to go to Pink Taco, in the Hard Rock Casino. I absolutely love Mexican food, so I couldn’t wait to try it out.

Since we went on a Saturday, we decided to make a reservation, which ended up being a good idea because it was packed! The decor is a mix between “modern Mexican cantina” and “old school Mexican cantina”. I don’t know how they were able to pull it off, but it really works. I loved the atmosphere in the restaurant; perfect Saturday-night-with-friends kind of place!

Because we had a reservation, we were seated right away and brought some chips and salsa. Then we waited. I’m not sure if it was because they were busy, but we didn’t see our server for at least 10 minutes. So, I asked for our server to come over to the table. I am usually am patient and will wait, but I’m not sure our server even knew that we were part of his section because he walked passed our table at least 4 times before coming over. Anyway, we ordered drinks and an appetizer sampler, to share.

My margarita was delicious! YUM, I’m always in the mood for a margarita! The appetizer was good, but nothing too special. The one thing that stood out was the tamales; the tamales were cooked perfectly.

For my main dish, I ordered shrimp tacos. They came with beans and rice. The shrimp was cooked just right and overall my meal was really excellent. My fiancé, Trevor, ordered Sabana De Pollo with Chimichurri. His meal blew me away! It was thin sliced seasoned chicken with cheese, onions, beans, pico de gallo, and chilies. It was amazing! When we come back I will for sure order what he had!

Then for desert we had churros with ice cream. Again, delish! And it was just the right portion for 4 people to share.

Overall, I loved Pink Taco: the atmosphere and food were incredible! My only critique was that the service was a bit sub-par for the strip. Our server was pretty absent most of the night. He was there just long enough to take our order and check on us once for drink refills. I would have like to see the service match the rest of the restaurant.

I would give Pink Taco, 4.5 out of 5. I would have given a full 5 had our server put more effort into the service. But, I loved the food, the atmosphere and especially the company I was with (Brett, we all wished you were there with us)!! 

Patty's Closet Outfit of the Week

Week 74 Miller's Ale House

What Teray Says...

This week my family joined me as guest bloggers. Every Friday night they always go to Miller's and because I have never reviewed it, I figured it would be the perfect place to go. Brett and I normally also go out on Saturdays, so it was cool to see what  Friday night was like out and about. :)

My family was already seated at a high top table when I arrived and I joined them in the back. They had a pitcher of beer on special. I ordered a water and an MG 64. I don't care what anyone says, I love MG 64, not only because it is a light beer in taste, but because the calorie amount is so low. 

Our server was friendly, I am not one though that likes to make a lot of conversation with strangers at times, so some people may have found him too chatty and that the stories he was telling were too personal, maybe not though. 

I took the longest to decide what to order. I ended up going with a pepperoni pizza. I figured it would be something that I could eat at dinner but then eat left overs the next day to save myself from cooking.  My aunt ordered fish tacos, my cousin ordered the Zinger club, which is not on the menu but they make it anyway, and my uncle ordered the Zingers. I have had the fish tacos before so I know they are great. I have also had the Zingers and can say they are amazing!!! If you have a sensitive stomach though, they are spicy so beware.

Speaking for just my pizza alone it was amazing. It tasted more like the pizza I am used to having back home then most of the speciality pizza places out here. I think I know what I will get from now on when I come here, especially because there are so many times to choose from.

I love the atmosphere of Miller's, anything in Town Square is always fun no matter when you go. On Friday of last week it was the UNLV Homecoming parade, so it was packed. I love to people watch and this was the perfect opportunity!

Overall, I love the atmosphere, prices, food, drinks and company of Miller's and I rate it 5 out 5. 

What Teray's Family Says... (Janet, Jim and Pat Lazarus, written by Janet Lazarus)

So I was the guest blogger for the Newlyweds Blog last week while Brett was out of town.  Teray came to dinner with us at Miller's and she asked if I would write a few lines.  First of all, we go to Miller's every Friday night, so to say we like it is a understatement.  What we love most about the place is that it reminds us of back home (of course being Teray's family that is Jersey).  We mostly sit at the bar each Friday (we kind of celebrate the ending of the work week) and we have become "REGULARS" which we love. The bartenders know us and they automatically get us our beer (which is always ice cold) and ask us how we are doing this week, just like the hometown feel because living in Vegas you kind of get lost in the shuffle.  

We mostly get the same food too, I always get the fish tacos which I love because the are good and kind of on the lighter side but you do get 3 which is plenty.  My husband usually gets the Zingers which they are known for and again are plentiful and a basket of fries which we share.  I have to say of all the places in Vegas I love their fries; they are always hot and fresh.  Teray's cousin also came to dinner this week and yes he always orders the Zinger Club which he swears by.  So they are definitely consistent with there food because we all  keep on ordering the same thing, so it must be good.  Teray ordered the pizza which I was glad because that recently came onto the menu but I never want to switch, but that did look really good.   I wanted to try the peanut butter pie on the menu since we were blogging but after all the talking and fun we had forgotten about dessert.   Oh well its not like I won't be back, perhaps this Friday lol. :) 5 out 5!!!

Week 73 Sweet Tomatoes

TGIF Friends! As I mentioned in the previous blog it is just me blogging the next couple of posts until Brett gets back (although this date we went on the day before he was deployed). Tonight I will be dining with guest bloggers so it should be fun. I wanted to say thank you for everyone who has checked on how my family is doing with the massive mess of the hurricane and checking on Brett and myself. You guys mean the world to us. It really is heart warming to have such true and good people in our lives.

What Teray Says...

So as I mentioned above Brett was on this date but left before he got to blog about it. This week we wanted something light because the night before we ate and drank at a fabulous Day of the Dead party. People have been recommending to me for months to head over to this place and this was the perfect opportunity.

Sweet Tomatoes is a salad, pasta, bread, potato, and soup buffet. If you sign up for their mailing list they email you a coupon that if you buy one meal and two drinks you get another meal half off, which is a good deal. Brett and I walked away so full under 20 dollars. 

We started off by loaded up our plates with tons of salad. I sampled all of the veggies as well as some of the pasta salads. Everything was so fresh and delicious. I think whenever I crave salad from now on, I will get take out salad from there. 

After the salad I moved onto the soup and the bread. Brett did the same. I had everything from pizza bread, corn bread, to brown rye bread with maple butter. Delicious! For soup I tried the creamy tomato basil, which was amazing. By the time I ate all of that food, I was too stuffed to eat from the potato bar, but I will definitely go back to try it. Brett ate most of the same things but he also tried the mac and cheese, which looked delicious so I should have tried it too!

Last, I went for dessert and made myself a hot fudge cake ice-cream concoction. It was absolutely delicious and hit the spot. 

I know this review is short and sweet, but everything was so wonderful and it was quick to write just like it was to eat. I would recommend this place to people of all ages both dining in and to go and rate them 5 out of 5.

Week 72 Origin India

Happy Halloween friends! I know we are very behind with blog and because we have been so busy, the next couple of reviews are just going to be posted by me. For this week I am about to review, we went to Origin India. Brett was there too, but because most of you know, or if you don't, he is on the east coast helping with the hurricane for emergency response, so as I mentioned above, I will be writing the review from one side. :)

What Teray Says...

So this week we headed for one of my favorite types of food, Indian food. Brett got a Groupon for a prefix meal that included one appetizer, two meals and one dessert for under  25 bucks, not bad at all if you ask me. Origin India is located right across from the Hard Rock on Paradise. There are many restaurants in that plaza so it is a pretty good place to head if you are looking for somewhere to eat. 

Origin India is beautiful inside; it is the type of place where you immediately want to host an upscale dinner party. We were seated right away and our waiter went over everything with us. I started with a red wine and Brett ordered an Indian beer. The red wine that I chose had to be some of the best that I have ever had. It was a Scarbolla, which now that I know I like, I will buy it in the store. I tasted Brett's Indian beer and it was pretty good too. I am not the biggest beer fan, so for me to like it, it must have been pretty good. 

For an appetizer we ordered homemade paneer cheese tikka, stuffed with apricots and raisins, marinated in coriander and basil glazed in Tandoor, pickled red cabbage. I had never had this before, but let me tell you, it was delicious and the best appetizer I had at an Indian restaurant ever. We also ordered sweet walnut and raisin bread, which was amazing and they should start selling it in stores. 

For dinner we ordered two family style meals that we could share along with white rice. We got the Southern Indian style diced lamb stir fry with curry leaves, black mustard seeds, whole Kashmiri chilli and coconut  and the Homestyle chicken curry scented with kaffir lime leaves, and smooth onion tomato sauce. Both of the meals had so much meat in them and the flavors were to die for. The lamb was cooked to perfection as well as the chicken curry. I would order both of those dishes again being the best that I have ever had and would probably drive there just to get them to go as well. My mouth is watering just typing this. 

For the dessert we ordered Gulab Jamun, which is Spongy mild balls made from cottage cheese and dry milk soaked in sweet syrup, served hot. The dessert was not only perfectly sweet, which is what I needed for the meal to be complete, but it was also light enough to not give you a major stomach ache after all of that food. 

Overall, the service was impeccable, the drinks were amazing and the food was some of the 

best I have had in my life. Without a doubt I rate Origin India 5 out of 5. Perfection.

Week 71 Firkin

Welcome back everyone! We hope are having a wonderful October. What Teray Says...

So for the past few weeks driving home from my office I have noticed Firkin, even from the outside it looked like a fun place, and I love to try anything that is fairly new. I have only had English food one other time and it was not a pleasant experience, so I was honestly looking forward more to the drinks and atmosphere than the food when I purchased the Groupon. 

Firkin is located on Paradise right over by the Hard Rock. When you walk in there is an area with booths, then tables and the bar, a pool table area and another room where you can sit and eat. At first we sat in the booth area, but quickly I felt out of the loop and wanted to move over to a table by the bar; the hostess was extremely easy going and didn't seem to mind. 

Our waiter was very nice with a great sense of humor and went over the drink specials. I decided to order a Washington Apple made into a mixed drink because it was on special and Brett got a beer. I was nervous because I didn't know if this apple drink would be strong but Brett assured me that it was basically a shot size of liquor and made into a bigger drink. I had to have two because it was so good. 

We took a little bit to decide what we wanted for our appetizers and ended up going with the calamari. I love calamari, and although it wasn't my favorite type from an Italian restaurant, it was very good. Of course like I mention in many reviews, it didn't taste too fried, which is the main reason that I liked it. 

For our meals I ordered a fried fish sandwich asking Brett if this was an English choice and he got bangers and mash. My sandwich was pretty good, but I would have probably been better off if I ordered a pizza like I wanted to. LOL. I must not be a fan of English food, because I have not enjoyed it either time I ordered it. 

For dessert we ordered the bread pudding, which besides the drinks was the best part of the meal. 

Overall, I really enjoyed the vibe of Firkin, I probably would go back just to hang and not approach it like an English bar, but just a regular bar. I rate it 4 out of 5. 

What Brett Says...

Another week where we decided to let Groupon decide, very thankful to deals.  We have to save some cash when we are averaging $3100/yr on just eating out for the blog.  So given the opportunity to save some cash we jump on it.  This week Groupon was offering 50% deal for "Firkin."  Haven't heard of it, no worries I didn't either.  Firkin is an English restaurant/pub across from the Hard Rock.  They are fairly new, I think they are in the right spot.

drinking crowd.  I since heard that the bar crowd is a pretty good time.  

Not thinking too highly of the area, except for the Hard Rock itself, I wasn't really sure what to expect.  When we parked I was already excited...there was a silver Delorean parked in front.  Being a true child of the 80's I am required to get giddy and hyped by the greatest movie car of all time.  So the restaurant itself is pretty large, a lot bigger then what I thought could have gone in at that location.  They have a large bar area, a good amount of table seats, a bar game area, and a self serve beer wall.  I didn't try the beer wall out but apparently you pay for a number of drinks and have a token type thing that allows you to pour a set number of beers.  The inside had an awesome atmosphere, if I was going out drinking this would be my spot.  It reminded me of an awesome English Pub in Minneapolis...except they didn't have the second floor yard for playing yard bowling.  It is just set up really well, it has a good flow for a food crowd or a 

Our server was a pretty chill guy, he looked like he belonged in an English pub as well.  He had good suggestions and made things flow.  He interacted with us and made sure everything was working out.  He also made sure to take care of Treat with her drinks, she isn't big on shots so he set her up right with some shots converted into mixed drinks.  He would do a good.job getting her drunk for me if I ever needed to see that.  A big plus is that when asked for suggestions he didn't automatically go with pricker items.  He was a key element to us having a great time.

The food was also pretty good.  I was surprised that the menu wasn't overwhelmingly English.  They had some key items but it was a well rounded menu.  We started off with some calamari...it is a safe bet anywhere.  It was really good, the sauce was money.  For dinner I went with a standard of English food, hangers and mashed.  When I go to English restaurants I either get that or the chicken pot pie.  Theirs was really good and filling.  They also bring some English spicy mustard that finishes the taste off perfectly.  I also had a couple Crown and Cokes thanks to their drink specials.

Overall it was a nothing over the top experience.  I don't say that in a bad way, it was amazing.  They just don't try to get crazy with things.  They keep everything simple and everything they do they do it well.  I would like to check out the bar scene the next time I've got some guys in town.

Week 70 Culinary Dropout

Welcome back friends! Can you believe we not only are halfway through October but also that this is week 70?! I cannot tell you how appreciative we are to everyone who follows, likes, comments on, emails, and chats with us about the blog. We are so blessed with all the opportunities this blog has provided us, all the amazing people we connect with because of it and the memories we are making together.  It is always such an amazing feeling that people recognize me when I go into Patty's Closet and they buy the outfits of the week that I wear. Thank you Patty, Juan and Jose for helping me every week and inspiring me with your passion. Brett and I love the time we get to spend together and look forward to our dates every week, so again thanks for joining us on this continuing journey.

What Teray Says...

So many people have talked to us about going to the Culinary Dropout at the Hard Rock. I knew that the decision was made when I talked to one of my closest gal pals Chelsie a few weeks back that this restaurant was now in Vegas and she raved about the one in Arizona. 
As I mentioned above, Culinary Dropout is located in the Hard Rock Casino. It is easy to find from parking and it is tucked to the side but opens out into an outside area which surrounds the pool, so the restaurant has a really open, fun feel. 

We were greeted right away by the friendliest hostess. We compared notes on our sock buns and I knew immediately this was going to be a good experience. Brett and I were seated at a table right by the stage (a band was there) but bordered the outside seating so we were able to enjoy the gorgeous weather while still being on the inside of the restaurant. 

Not long after we were seated our waitress also incredibly friendly and helpful came over and took our drink order; Brett ordered beer in a brown bag and I ordered a glass of Riesling. The drink prices were so reasonable for the strip that I was blown away quite frankly. Mixed drinks were 10-12 dollars, wine averaged about 8 bucks and beer was reasonable too. While waiting for our main drinks our waitress brought over a drink that the bar tender made for someone by mistake that they didn't want (great more for us!). This drink was called "mule' something and it was an amazing ginger mojito type drink that might be one of the best combinations I have ever had in a cup. If I could remember the ingredients and the recipe I bet I would be drinking it weekly, so maybe it is better that I don't recall. Haha. 

For our appetizer we had to go with what everyone told us about, the hot pretzel bites and provolone fondue cheese. Holy crow was this amazing! The portion size is excellent and every bite I was just in sheer delight savoring as my mouth watered for the next one. I probably would go back just for that and to drive to the Hard Rock for pretzels, you know that they have to be good. 

As for our food, which also came out very quickly, I ordered the turkey pastrami which was on a pretzel roll. I know, I became obsessed with the pretzel and Brett ordered a burger. For my sandwich, again it was amazing and so filling I could only finish half. If you know me that never happens with pastrami; I am obsessed with it. The price was also awesome for the strip. I didn't try Brett's burger but from what he said it had to be amazing. He will explain more in his portion of the review. 

The only complaint I had was that the band was very loud where we were sitting. I am not going to take points off for this though because I am not the biggest live music fan. That is a personal issue I have because I like music soft (ask Brett, in the car I always turn the volume down) unless I am at a pool or a nightclub and ready to dance. 

Culinary Dropout has such a fun vibe and the decor is absolutely awesome. I would love to go back not only for lunch and dinner but to try the brunch menu. I would also love to sit outside next time. If you are my friend you most likely will be invited to my birthday dinner which as of right now I will be having there. Without a doubt I would rate Culinary Dropout 5 out of 5 and one of my favorites out of this whole blog experience so far and in Vegas as a whole.

This week we went a route out of the box.  We went to a very touristy casino, Hard Rock.  Living in Vegas often means you avoid places heavy in tourists.  Not sure why we decided to surround ourselves in with "woo girls," men in metallic shirts, and fanny packs but we did.  I guess occasionally you need to enjoy what your town is know for, at least it was off the strip.  This week we went to "Culinary Dropout."  

Culinary Dropout is located along the pool, part of the seating is next to the pool.  On a nice night it might be one of the most comfortable place to eat a meal and relax.  The entire atmosphere is just cool; it has the theme of a restaurant gone wrong but they put it together in a way that makes it work.  It isn't overbearing and it isn't trashy.  They also have a small stage for live bands.  The unfortunate thing is that we weren't told there would be a live band and we were seated directly in front of the band.  Which may be great if we were there to see the performance, unfortunately we were there on a date.  Once the band started warming up (and there is nothing worse then listening to a sound check) conversation was impossible.  I just wish we were told that we would be dining with a speaker.  If they would have warned us we would have asked to be seated elsewhere, imposing the band on us was poor customer service on their part.  Or they could have warned us when we made our reservation.  Either way they need to realize some people are there for an enjoyable meal.  It didn't help that the band was pretty rough sounding.
One saving grace of the band situation was the service.  Our waitress was awesome.  From the minute we sat down she took care of us and made sure we experienced.  I really wish I remembered her name because she deserves praise.  At one point she brought us a free drink because the bar made an extra.  She was on top of things with suggestions and helping us decide between things.  She really did make the meal better.

Dipping things in hot cheese, I really can't think of anything better as an appetizer.  We decided to get the soft pretzel bites with cheese.  This was great, I am thankful I do not have access to these more often because they would be a staple of my diet and a major contributor to an expanding belt size.  For my entree I kept it simple and decided to get a burger, the Pub Burger.  Meat, havarti cheese, and bacon on a pretzel bun.  Simple and amazing.  My only complaint is that the bun fell apart halfway through the burger.  My suggestion is to put a lettuce leaf on the bottom to keep the bun dry and in one piece.  As for dessert, didn't make the cut this week.  Were were completely full and had no more room.  The free drink we got was almost like a mojito with ginger...in a brass culminate. It was delicious.

Overall I enjoyed Culinary Dropout.  I pointed out a few things that would have made it better, some more important than others.  If the service across the board is as good as we had then that alone makes it worth while.  The pretzel bites will get worked into my stomach again, even if it means I have to start hanging out at tourist spots.
