Week 83 Triple George Grill

Thanks for reading everyone. Hope you all are having a wonderful 2013 so far. I know that we definitely are. I can't believe January is almost over. Where did the time go? I guess time flies when you are having fun, and fun is definitely what we are having.

After many requests from you guys (we love suggestions), I made a Keek which we will start making Keeks soon. In these Keeks we will post things from our dates and of course how I pick my outfits of the week provided by Patty's Closet. Once I get that up and running, I will let everyone know. For everyone that doesn't know what Keek is; it's where you make little video clips. 

What Teray Says...

This week Brett had some friends in town. I was excited because I had met them when we got engaged a few years back in Michigan during Brett's home coming. They were staying downtown so we decided on a downtown restaurant. Anyone who knows me knows that I am not really a fan of downtown. Well, let me rephrase that, I am not the biggest fan of walking around there where the casinos are because I always feel like there are some crazies down there. I do love First Friday, the art district, and the restaurant scene, so I guess I should have just started with I am not a fan of the crazies downtown. :)

We got to Triple George Grill and I immediately like the vibe of the place. A huge bar was in the middle with rooms to the back and to the left. We had a seat at the bar for a drink while we waited for our friends. Brett chose a Blue Moon and I had a pear martini rimmed with cinnamon. My drink was fantastic. By the end I couldn't drink the last few sips because it was pretty strong (I kept this drink throughout the whole dinner). 

Once our friends arrived we were seated in the back at a long table with a dimly lit atmosphere which I love when I am out to dinner; I feel like it makes a restaurant really swanky. Everyone ordered drinks and appetizers. Brett and I chose the Ahi tuna. The Ahi tuna came with veggies which were amazing and the tuna was even better, probably one of the best appetizers I have ever had at a restaurant. 

For our meals I ordered spicy shrimp and scallop pasta and Brett got more Ahi tuna. He must have really liked the appetizer. The food didn't take too long to come out, but gave us enough time to relax and enjoy ourselves at dinner. My food was beyond delicious, probably one of the best pasta dishes I have had in the city. The portion size was really big though so of course I gave over half of it to Brett. 

By the time dessert came I was so full I didn't even look at the menu. I bet they had amazing desserts though. I think I would go back just to find out. I have to say this was one of the best restaurant experiences I have had in a long time; the service was great, the atmosphere was fabulous, the company was fun, and the food was amazing. For Brett and I with tip it costs about 100 bucks, not too bad for such a great experience. I definitely rate Triple George Grill 5 out of 5. 

What Brett Says...

This week we did more then our usual date night, a fraternity brother of mine and his wife were in town for the CES convention and we decided to get together.  They were in the mood for seafood and we thought maybe going downtown might be a good time.  They brought along a couple coworkers so we got to see what the restaurant offered to a table of six.  After looking online I stumbled onto "Triple George Grill" downtown.  They offered a little of everything including seafood.  We made reservations since it was a Friday night at a place that tends to be busy.

Teray and I got to the restaurant a little early not knowing what parking would be like.  We decided to make our lives easy and just valet it, it made it much easier at the end of the night.  Not having ever seen Triple George Grill before I was not really sure what we were going to get, downtown can be a little iffy as far as establishments go.  Lucky for us this place instantly sold us.  We walked into a very cool and classy establishment.  There was a large center bar that ran the entire length of the space.  There were large booths around the bar and a large dining room off to the side, there may have been more that we didn't get a chance to see.  The feel of the place was old Vegas, I would expect to see the Rat Pack hanging out having a drink and a nice dinner.  They didn't try to over due the Vegas thing, they shot for a look and a feel and they did a good job pulling it off.

Since we were early we decided to have a seat at the bar and have a drink while we were waiting for the rest of the group.  The bartender was a very lively personality; in the 15 minutes we sat at the bar he made it awesome.  He was interactive with us and even though the bar was pretty full he made quite a bit of time for us.  When it was time to be sat we were moved to the dining room, our server was very good.  It has been rare that we get quality service and this is a place we definitely got it.  All of our needs were met and then some.  We were taken care of very well and I can't think of a single thing I would complain about.  Service was at it's top from the minute we walked in till the minute we walked out.  Service alone is a reason to go here.

So the restaurant itself is very cool and the service was awesome.  The only thing that could ruin a good thing is the food.  Fortunately for Triple George they delivered and kept themselves is the plus column.  For appetizers we had some ahi tuna and caprese salad, the tuna was amazing..so much so that I got ahi tuna as my entree.  The caprese was a little different then normal but still very good.  Like I said I got the tuna as my entree as well, I decided to get it blackened.  I'm usually not big on getting fish at restaurants because I prefer how I cook it.  They did not disappoint, one of my brother's coworkers got it as well and she said hers was good as well.  I also had the opportunity to try Teray's spicy shrimp and scallop pasta; it was really good but also really spicy.  I can usually do spicy but this tested me.  I enjoyed it but I couldn't eat it all because of the level of spice.

Rating 5 out of 5...go here for every occasion from dates to groups to drinks.

Patty's Closet Outfit of the Week

Week 56 Casa Don Juan

What Teray Says...

So this week we chose another restaurant based on Groupon. We have gotten suggestions in the past for this place, so I knew it was going to be good. Our groupon included 2 meals and 2 jumbo margaritas (my summer fave!). 

Casa Don Juan is located downtown on Main Street. There is seating on the sidewalk outside, which would be amazing at night when it cools down, but the fact that when we went it was still over 100 degrees, we headed inside for the air conditioning.

We were seated right away and brought chips and salsa, bean dip, and guacomole. The chips were fantastic and so were all the dips. Whenever I go to a restaurant with chips, I know that I am going to be in trouble, because I could probably eat 3 bowls myself, especially if they are extra salty. 

For our Cadillac margaritas Brett chose a frozen one and I chose one on the rocks. I could probably drink margs as I call them all day, especially if they were the skinny version, but normally one is enough for me. :) They were fantastic by the way and I would come back here just for the drink and to me that is a big deal. 

For our meal, we both ordered the same thing: shrimp tacos. The tacos were huge! It came with rice and beans and the portion size was amazing. Of course I could only eat one taco and brought the other one home. I ate it a few hours later though. The food was so fresh, especially the sauces and shrimp, and there was just a perfect mix of flavors. Probably some of the best tacos I have had in Vegas. 

For dessert we ordered flan. I always for some odd reason get flan mixed up with another dessert that I can't think of right now, but after eating this flan, I will remember what it is from now on. It had to be the best flan that I have had in a long time. The portion size was perfect too so that we could share it!!! 

Again this week our Groupon find was a hit. The service was excellent, the food was to die for and the atmosphere was so fun. I can imagine having a great dinner with friends there (stay tuned friends for the invite :) ) I would rate Casa Don Juan 5 out of 5 and will definitely be heading there for Mexican food from now on.

What Brett Says...


This week was Mexican food week, thanks to another Groupon.  We decided to check out "Casa Don Juan" down on Main Street; can't beat Mexican food and margaritas during a hot Vegas summer.  They are located on Main Street just south of Charleston, it is pretty hard to miss.  Our Groupon covered two entrees and two margaritas, can't beat it for $25.

Casa Don Juan kinda tricks you.  From the outside it looks like another hole in the wall place, tiny, with a couple tables outside.  When you walk in you realize the place is really nice and surprisingly large; so large in fact we had a group of 24 people next to us.  The walls are covered with Mexican images, ranging from photos to paintings.  The seating was comfortable and spacious.  We didn't do a any exploring of the restaurant but it appeared to have two large rooms and a large bar, the outside sidewalk tables would probably be best saved for a cool fall Friday night...maybe on a first Friday.  One thing I really liked was that it was authentic Mexican, the menu was in Spanish, but they were nice enough to put English underneath.  I really appreciate this since most of Vegas is English with Spanish subtitles...just learn the language already.  I was surprised by the service, they were really busy (I mentioned the 24 people next to us), but our server was right on top of things.  He was at our table within a minute or two of us sitting down, we told him we had the Groupon and he walked us through what we could and couldn't get.  We didn't feel forgotten and best of all we didn't feel rushed.

Being such a perfect couple we are we ended up pretty much getting the same thing.  We each had the large margarita; except I had blended and hers was on the rocks.  I can't speak for hers...she did that up there, but mine was really good.  You could taste the tequila and it went down cold and smooth.  As for our entree we each ordered the shrimp tacos.  I was expecting some half assed Del Taco like shrimp taco, instead we got two huge overflowing tacos.  They used the baby shrimp and they put plenty in there for you, I ended up having to scoop up the parts that fell out of the tortilla.  Along with the tacos we got rice and beans...these were pretty standard, nothing to talk about.  A very filling meal overall.

I am dying over this skull top, which is beyond edgy. I love the fact that it can be worn all seasons, because it is long sleeved. The shorts are such a pop of color and the fact that they are high-waisted makes them a great piece that can be worn with any kind of top. The buttons on them are the perfect detail. Week 43 Lola's A Louisiana Kitchen (Downtown Vegas)

Happy Spring fellow food and fashion lovers. Spring is one of my favorite times of year (especially when it is spring break). This blog is a little delayed because we just got back from UTAH. It was amazing; so different from Vegas. It is great to get out of town every once in awhile, but that review of eating there will be up later in the week. ;)

What Teray Says...


This past week I chose to go to Lola's  because I was absolutely craving cajun food. It is rare that I get a craving, besides fast food because I love food in general that when I want to eat something, I typically do. Lola's is a tiny place that we drive by all the time when we head downtown for things such as "First Friday." It is on West Charleston and as you get off the 15 if you see the neon clock you know that you have found it. 


Pulling up to Lola's they have outside and inside seating. On a typical warmer day I probably would have chose outside seating, but my last favorite thing is to be uncomfortable during a meal so I went with inside, because I wouldn't be too cold or too hot. 


We were seated right away and greeted by our server immediately. Brett decided to order a beer that is popular in New Orleans...can't tell ya what it was, and I went with just a basic Bud Light. As we decided what appetizer we wanted I checked out the decor which was filled with things with the New Orleans Saints and Mardi Gras items. It is a pretty cool vibe. I love restaurants exactly that size, not too big and not too small. 


For an appetizer we chose crawpuppies, because we have had them at another place and I really liked them. These are called craw puppies rather than hush puppies like some restaurants because they had crawfish in them and were absolutely delicious. You get five of them, so it is perfect amount for an appetizer. We each had two and then split one. I probably could have ate the whole plate myself, but had to save room for dinner. 

For our dinners, Brett asked the waiter before we ordered which was a big portion, because he was pretty hungry. I immediately knew what I wanted, because I wanted crawfish, but not the actually kind that you have to figure out how to eat. I wanted it ready for me to put my fork in. I cannot remember the name of what I ordered (and of course I threw the receipt away) but it was craw fish in a sauce with rice. It was actually pretty excellent, and I finished almost all of it, letting Brett finish a tiny bit of it. The portion size was very good and there was just the right amount of crawfish. 

Brett ordered a shrimp pasta dish. Although it was very good, it is not what I would have chosen at a cajun restaurant. It was more like something that would have been at an Italian restaurant. I think he should have ate something a little bit more with the theme, but the waiter steered him in the direction of this. He definitely wasn't full afterwards like told he would be. It was pretty good though. 

As for dessert, that definitely was the best part. I ordered the bread pudding and Brett ordered the sweet potato pecan pie. My bread pudding was out of this world. It has the perfect amount of sweetness and consistency. I ate about half of it, because I was full from dinner. Maybe next time I should start with the dessert. I took one taste of Brett's pie and know that if I ever go back to Lola's I would definitely order that for dessert, or maybe even venture on finding a recipe to make it on my own. 

Overall, I enjoyed the food at Lola's, but if I were comparing it and the other cajun place we have been to, the other one would totally win. I rate Lola's 3.5 out of 5. I think maybe next time if we sat outside and ordered different items, the rating may be higher. 


What Brett Says...

This week we got to check out a place that was on our original list of places to go, and for some reason never got to.  This week we went to “Lola’s Louisiana Kitchen” on Charleston just off the 15.  I drive by it 10 times a day and always see people enjoying their meal out on the patio.  Not to mention good Louisiana food is, well good. 

The restaurant looks awesome, it is a small place with a few tables inside and a few outside.  There is a small bar as well, unfortunately it is beer and wine only.  I would expect to see this place in the downtown area of New Orleans.  The atmosphere is upbeat and just gives off that vibe that you are in for something good.  The only downside I have to the restaurant itself is that the location.  It is close to the Arts District and the new Smith Center but you sit on the patio and you have a view of Charleston and all that goes up and down it.    It is by far a deal breaker but if you are choosing a place based on patio then this might not be for you.

The service was good however, this would be a reason to go.  Our waiter was friendly and welcoming; he also was personable and ready with suggestions.  The nice thing about his suggestions were the fact they weren’t the most expensive thing on the menu.  He always made sure we had drinks and refills on our water.  The food we ordered he felt would be complete only with a basket of bread…which was brought free of charge.  Unfortunately he did not fully comprehend the meaning of “I am starving and want a very large meal” when I said it.  He threw out a couple suggestions and lead me to a spicy shrimp pasta,  not exactly what I would have called large or filling.

Like I said it wasn’t that large of a meal but the spicy shrimp past was good.  Unfortunately we lost the receipt and it isn’t on their online menu so I have no idea what it is actually called.  But it is on their regular menu.  I would also not say that it is spicy, I was not given an option for level of spice but I assume they play it safe for all guests.  The size and spice level aside it was still a very good past dish.  There was ample shrimp and it was already de-tailed so you didn’t have to reach into your pasta to take the tails off your shrimp…this is usually a disappointment for me.  We also ordered their hush puppy appetizer which was pretty good, on the small side but it is an appetizer.  I also should note that the bread that was brought to us was amazing and hot.  It seemed to have come right from the warming oven and was a great addition to the meal.  For dessert I opted to have the sweet potato pecan pie…this in itself is reason to go here.  If you are downtown and are in the mood for dessert go here and get this.

All in all I would recommend Lola’s.  I would return if given a reason, I would try different things on the menu, except the dessert.  The location hurts it and the shrimp pasta was good but didn’t meet the needs at the time.  I would have also liked to see a full bar, sometimes beer and wine doesn’t cut it.  Overall I rate them 3.75 out of 5.

Patty's Closet Outfit of the Week

I was excited now that I have some afternoons free being done with my class that I could make it to the St. Rose store because it ranks in my top faves among the Patty's Closet stores.  This dress is my absolutely favorite style because of the silhouette. It is extremely flattering to all shapes because it accentuates curves while highlighting the smaller areas. The colors on this dress are vibrant and definitely pop for spring. The lace at the top is pretty delicate to make this dress very girly. This dress could be worn to a dinner date or a brunch with friends.
