Week 92 Sedona Restaurant

We hope everyone is enjoying their spring vacation and if you aren't lucky enough to be on spring vacation, well, we hope you are having a great time anyway. What Teray Says...

The night that we went out to Sedona the weather was in the high 80s all day and I wanted to go somewhere that we could eat outside. We drive by Sedona all the time on our way to LVAC so I figured this would be great pick. Sedona is located at the W. Flamingo and the 215. Sedona is pretty awesome because they have not only a pretty upscale bar area, but there are also typical dining areas and private dining areas. The best part about Sedona is that there is an outside area with tables and fire pits where people can eat or just come to order drinks. I also read that there is music some nights, so it seems like they have everything covered for Vegas. 

We were seated right away and the heat lamps were turned on for us immediately after we asked, which was awesome. Although the weather was warm, the extra heat helped offset the breeze. Our waitress was extremely friendly and from Brooklyn, so I knew immediately from one east coaster to another that our service would be good. For our drinks, Brett stuck with water and got a cucumber martini. I know, it sounds weird, but it is delicious because it is light tasting. Brett was not a fan, but that's okay. 

For an appetizer we ordered lettuce wraps, which tasted so good, and the portion size was perfect. For dinner I ordered the linguine and clams (shocking..hahaha) and Brett ordered xx. My linguine and clams was amazing and I would have thought I was at an Italian restaurant that it was so good. I ate every single bite of course. 

We decided we were going to get dessert and chose the dessert panini. Within the dessert panini was nutella, banana and ice cream. It was beyond fabulous, one of the best desserts that I have had in Las Vegas. Of course, I ate every bite of that too. 

This was one of the first times that I have ever finished all of my food portions at a restaurant, so that really says something about Sedona. Of course I was right about the service and the waitress was awesome. The atmosphere was fun and of course the company was the best. I will definitely going back to Sedona many times once the summer comes and rate it without a doubt a 5 out of 5. 

What Brett Says...

This week we decided to class it up a bit and go for a nicer meal.  Every once in a while you need to treat yourself and reward yourself for the hard work.  We decided to go to "Sedona" on Flamingo at the 215.  We drive by it every time we go to the gym, we have also heard they have great food.  So why not.

Driving by Sedona just looks like a cool place, it fits right into the desert Vegas feel.  The inside is gorgeous and open, you do not feel like you will be eating on top of another table.  They also have a fairly large two section outdoor patio; which is where we ate.  The patio was amazing.  There was live plants and trees throughout, fire pits, and heaters.  They have tables and lounging areas, it was moderately filled but there was enough room between tables to actually have a private conversation.  I would have to say that this is the most comfortable outdoor restaurant I have ever been to.

One of the biggest things that ruins my restaurant experience is horrible service.  This was absolutely NOT one of those times.  When we walked in the host met us quickly, was polite, and professional.  Our server was awesome, she was from NYC so Teray got to feel at home with the accent.  She was on top of our entire experience, we never felt as though we were neglected.  She had a very inviting and helpful way about her.

There menu has quite a few options, most of them sound like they would be amazing.  We both ordered a couple drinks and decided to get things rolling with an order of lettuce wraps.  They are different then other lettuce wraps I've had, which isn't a bad thing.  They give you less lettuce but you don't need them.  They were a great start to our meal.  For my entree I stepped out of my norm and decided to get the bacon wrapped scallops, I was a little worried about getting it because I was starving.  You get several large scallops wrapped in bacon on top of mashed potatoes with a split pea topping.  I couldn't believe how amazing they were and how I actually got full...not stuffed.  It was the perfect amount of food.  For desert we indulged in their dessert panini, look at the photo.  Perfect way to round out the meal.

Overall I was extremely impressed with the entire experience.  I would say that Sedona should be reserved for nicer dinners since the prices are higher then the majority of the restaurants we visit.  For the price though you are not disappointed at all.

Week 83 Triple George Grill

Thanks for reading everyone. Hope you all are having a wonderful 2013 so far. I know that we definitely are. I can't believe January is almost over. Where did the time go? I guess time flies when you are having fun, and fun is definitely what we are having.

What Teray Says...

This week Brett had some friends in town. I was excited because I had met them when we got engaged a few years back in Michigan during Brett's home coming. They were staying downtown so we decided on a downtown restaurant. Anyone who knows me knows that I am not really a fan of downtown. Well, let me rephrase that, I am not the biggest fan of walking around there where the casinos are because I always feel like there are some crazies down there. I do love First Friday, the art district, and the restaurant scene, so I guess I should have just started with I am not a fan of the crazies downtown. :)

We got to Triple George Grill and I immediately like the vibe of the place. A huge bar was in the middle with rooms to the back and to the left. We had a seat at the bar for a drink while we waited for our friends. Brett chose a Blue Moon and I had a pear martini rimmed with cinnamon. My drink was fantastic. By the end I couldn't drink the last few sips because it was pretty strong (I kept this drink throughout the whole dinner). 

Once our friends arrived we were seated in the back at a long table with a dimly lit atmosphere which I love when I am out to dinner; I feel like it makes a restaurant really swanky. Everyone ordered drinks and appetizers. Brett and I chose the Ahi tuna. The Ahi tuna came with veggies which were amazing and the tuna was even better, probably one of the best appetizers I have ever had at a restaurant. 

For our meals I ordered spicy shrimp and scallop pasta and Brett got more Ahi tuna. He must have really liked the appetizer. The food didn't take too long to come out, but gave us enough time to relax and enjoy ourselves at dinner. My food was beyond delicious, probably one of the best pasta dishes I have had in the city. The portion size was really big though so of course I gave over half of it to Brett. 

By the time dessert came I was so full I didn't even look at the menu. I bet they had amazing desserts though. I think I would go back just to find out. I have to say this was one of the best restaurant experiences I have had in a long time; the service was great, the atmosphere was fabulous, the company was fun, and the food was amazing. For Brett and I with tip it costs about 100 bucks, not too bad for such a great experience. I definitely rate Triple George Grill 5 out of 5. 

What Brett Says...

This week we did more then our usual date night, a fraternity brother of mine and his wife were in town for the CES convention and we decided to get together.  They were in the mood for seafood and we thought maybe going downtown might be a good time.  They brought along a couple coworkers so we got to see what the restaurant offered to a table of six.  After looking online I stumbled onto "Triple George Grill" downtown.  They offered a little of everything including seafood.  We made reservations since it was a Friday night at a place that tends to be busy.

Teray and I got to the restaurant a little early not knowing what parking would be like.  We decided to make our lives easy and just valet it, it made it much easier at the end of the night.  Not having ever seen Triple George Grill before I was not really sure what we were going to get, downtown can be a little iffy as far as establishments go.  Lucky for us this place instantly sold us.  We walked into a very cool and classy establishment.  There was a large center bar that ran the entire length of the space.  There were large booths around the bar and a large dining room off to the side, there may have been more that we didn't get a chance to see.  The feel of the place was old Vegas, I would expect to see the Rat Pack hanging out having a drink and a nice dinner.  They didn't try to over due the Vegas thing, they shot for a look and a feel and they did a good job pulling it off.

Since we were early we decided to have a seat at the bar and have a drink while we were waiting for the rest of the group.  The bartender was a very lively personality; in the 15 minutes we sat at the bar he made it awesome.  He was interactive with us and even though the bar was pretty full he made quite a bit of time for us.  When it was time to be sat we were moved to the dining room, our server was very good.  It has been rare that we get quality service and this is a place we definitely got it.  All of our needs were met and then some.  We were taken care of very well and I can't think of a single thing I would complain about.  Service was at it's top from the minute we walked in till the minute we walked out.  Service alone is a reason to go here.

So the restaurant itself is very cool and the service was awesome.  The only thing that could ruin a good thing is the food.  Fortunately for Triple George they delivered and kept themselves is the plus column.  For appetizers we had some ahi tuna and caprese salad, the tuna was amazing..so much so that I got ahi tuna as my entree.  The caprese was a little different then normal but still very good.  Like I said I got the tuna as my entree as well, I decided to get it blackened.  I'm usually not big on getting fish at restaurants because I prefer how I cook it.  They did not disappoint, one of my brother's coworkers got it as well and she said hers was good as well.  I also had the opportunity to try Teray's spicy shrimp and scallop pasta; it was really good but also really spicy.  I can usually do spicy but this tested me.  I enjoyed it but I couldn't eat it all because of the level of spice.

Rating 5 out of 5...go here for every occasion from dates to groups to drinks.

Week 65 Aces Bar

What Teray Says...

This week we decided to head over to Aces. Aces is a bar that is located on El Capitan and Warm Springs. Brett and I literally live 0.3 miles from there and in the 9 months we have been in our house had never visited. What is wrong with us? A bar that you can walk to and we have never been there; shows how busy we have been. Anyway, I used to not be the bar type, but about 1.5 years ago I made a switch and prefer the casual places. Aces has a pretty awesome set up though if you ask me. There is a bar with gaming, a patio area, a typical restaurant area, and then a man cave which is full of couches, a fire place, and televisions. 

Aces has a real neighborhood vibe. Brett and I being big fans of "How I Met Your Mother" our always looking for our Mclaren's; I think we have found the place. The bartender informed us that most of the people that go there are people from our neighborhood and the surrounding neighborhoods, so it is definitely a local crowd. 

What is pretty cool about Aces is that they have 3 happy hours, so most of the time that you go there, you will be more than likely to catch a happy hour. I ordered a diet coke and vodka for my first drink and Brett ordered Bud Light. After that I stuck to Bloody Mary drinks being I love them and they were only $3 on special. Yum!

For appetizers we ordered mozzarella sticks and zucchini sticks. Both portion sizes were great for two people being half price and they were delicious as well. I love bar food! 

For our food I ordered a calzone, something I have not had in forever, and Brett ordered a meatball sub. I guess we both went with the Italian theme. I can only speak for mine, but the calzone was fantastic! There was so much of it, of course I gave some to Brett (what else is new). I would order that again if I go there or even get it to go if I felt like having some sort of food that fell into the pizza category. 

Overall, I am definitely going to rate Aces 5 out of 5 because I cannot wait to go there again. We actually are going there tonight to watch the Broncos came. So if you are looking for us on Sunday, if we are not with friends here at the Dragun house, that is where we will be all football season! 

What Brett Says...

We finally did it, after living in our house for 9 months we finally went to the bar that is a whole 0.3 miles from our house.  I think it happened because football season is here and we needed a place to eat and drink, followed by walking home.  DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE, drinking and walking is way more fun and usually leads to some kind of funny story.  We went to "Ace's" on the corner of Warm Springs and El Capitan; we drove by it everyday and neglected to ever go...I am a little disappointed in us to be honest.  As for the whole football thing, they do not have a specific team; I would prefer if the Oakland, Kansas City, and San Diego fans choose elsewhere to watch though.

I'll start with the place itself.  The bar area is smaller then what you expect based on the building, but it is a good thing.  I am tired of these Vegas bars that are one giant room with noise in every direction.  In the bar area they have a handful of standard flat screens for the game, they also have Golden Tee and a putt-putt type arcade game.  One thing they have that most places don't seem to have anymore, a juke box.  Once you leave the bar area you enter the "Man Cave" which is a room with leather sofa's, a fire place, and more televisions.  Through the Man Cave you enter a small dining room which is nothing special but it is fairly well separated from the bar area.  They also have a patio but I know nothing about it yet because of the heat.  The place has a Cheers feel to it, just comfortable.

Not knowing what to expect food wise from a bar can be a little scary.  We all know bar food and we all know bar food the next day.  Their website makes them seem like it is a fine dining restaurant as opposed to a local bar.  This made things even more confusing going into the situation.  We happened to go during happy hour (they have three of them) so we splurged and got more then we usually do, we did it for you.  I decided to drink some Bud Lite on tap and Teray was doing her usual MG64 and bloody mary bar routine.  Because it was happy hour we decided to get two of their $5 appetizers; fried zucchini and mozzarella sticks.  The mozz sticks were good but pretty standard, the zucchini sticks on the other hand were pretty amazing.  Both are legit portions and not the BS happy hour portions.  Looking over their menu they do offer a pretty good assortment of things to choose from; you can do anything from regular bar food to things you would find in a normal restaurant.  Well, we were watching some baseball and drinking at the bar so we decided to go for more of the bar food end of things.  I ordered a meatball sandwich with fries while Teray ordered a calzone.  I honestly think these should be featured at more bars, I can't really think of a local bar that has either.  My meatball sandwich was pretty good, the meatballs were huge.  A lot better then a Subway meatball sub.  They didn't overload it with sauce but there was plenty of cheese.  The bun was toasted and wasn't rock hard.  As usual I got to eat a decent amount of Teray's meal, the calzone.  I haven't ventured into the world of calzones, a few here and there, but not a staple.  I have to say that this is what calzones should taste like if they normally don't.  Teray went into more detail but it was damn good.

Just a quick blip about the service.  We only had interaction with the bartender, he was awesome.  He took care of us, joked around with us, and was just a cool guy.  Apparently he works Friday, Saturday, Sunday from 3pm-11pm so I would go then.  I know we will be there Sundays for the afternoon game.  

Overall I would recommend Aces.  When you go sign up for their text message thing, you get a discount and future deals.  I would recommend this bar to anyone.

Rating 4.9 out of 5 (they would be 5 out of 5 but they aren't a Denver Bronco bar)

Week 49 Super Mex Cinco de Mayo

Welcome back! So much has happened since we last posted. I (Teray) took a new position and graduated from UNLV and Brett has started his clinicals. We also celebrated our 1 year wedding anniversary yesterday! It has been the best year by far and we have had so many blessings. What Teray Says.... 


 I am writing this from my iPad so it will be shorter than normal because it takes me awhile to type. We decided to go to Super Mex for Cinco de Mayo because it is not too far from our house. Super Mex is a lot bigger than I thought. The place was hopping and all areas were full. We were seated right away and brought chips and salsa, which the chips were amazing by the way. 

We also ordered house margaritas, totaling two each for the night. As for an appetizer we ordered Mexican pizza, which was basically like a pizza with quesadilla toppings all over it. It was amazing, but pretty rich and filling. 

As for our food I ordered tacos and Brett ordered chimmichamgas. I had one steak and one chicken taco. It came with rice and beans and it was double wrapped, which again made it very filling. I only could eat one taco and took one home to eat the next day. I'm glad the portions were big though because it coated my stomach with the strong margarita.

 The atmosphere and service was food and seemed fun. It was perfect for what we were looking for. We also had a coupon for buy one meal and two drinks and get one meal free. We love coupons and aren't ashamed. I really I would give Super Mex 3.5 out of 5. The highlight being the portion size. 






What Brett Says...


I'm not as cool as I use to be, well I am just in a completely different way.  Five years ago on Cinco de Mayo I would be at the bar the minute it opened, having amply pregamed.  I would be at that bar, or several, till they closed and then I would head to the after party.  The day would be filled with nachos, burritos, and salsa.  I would be drinking Coronas and cheap tequila like it was water.  The party would be strong and there would be little room to move.  I would usually end up in a sombrero.  I would do all this while being the man I was..."Fish."  Now I am cool in the mature married adult way.  I still went to a Mexican restaurant, ate sensibly, and had a whopping two margaritas.  I spent the day running errands and only had one woman on my mind, my amazing wife.  People refer to me by my birth name, Brett.  My "party" experience lasted maybe 2 hours, and that includes driving time.  This year for my Cinco de Mayo celebration I went to "Super Mex" with Teray.  It is on Durango at Sunset, it is very unassuming and looks like an off-brand Roberto's.  The assumptions were proven wrong.

Like I said Super-Mex doesn't look like much from the outside, looks small, has a decent patio, not to mention the cheesy name and signage.  But we figured we shoud give it a try and keep it close to home.  I was honestly amazed when we walked in, the place is large and looks authentic.  The bar was pretty crowded...it was a Mexican holiday which gives Americans an excuse to drink.  We decided to grab a booth in the bar area, that way we could feel like we were part of the party...we weren't though.  It was fun making fun of the drunks (the ones that would have been me years ago).  The booth was large and comfortable.  The whole atmosphere just worked.  Our server made sure we were taken care of, nothing overly good but good enough for an honorable mention.  Lately it seems like I am just hoping for the correct order, refills, and the check in a timely matter.  This guy and the rest of the staff made sure our experience wasn't ruined by them.  

Teray and I eat pretty clean throughout the week and on Saturdays we tend to allow ourselves a little leeway.  First we begin with a couple house margaritas, then some more.  The margaritas tasted like margaritas, they weren't watered down and they weren't miniature.  Can't say the bartenders were loose with the tequila but it was in there.  We decided to have a little Mexican appetizer...Mexican pizza.  The pizza consisted of 4 slices of fried tortillas smothered with all that is Mexican toppings.  The pizza was really good, it could work as an entree for some, for us it made the perfect entry way into Cinco de Mayo cuisine.  From the pizza I went into the direction of fried goodness.  I decided to order the two chimichanga entree, I went with one chicken and one beef.  They weren't as good as the chimichangas I use to make at Chi-Chi's back in the day but they were good.  The course itself was extremely filling, with the beans and rice that came with it I couldn't even finish it all...which is sad since it was my cheat meal.  We were so full from everything we didn't even get dessert.

Overall I was impressed, not sure what it is like on a day that isn't dedicated to drinking and eating at a Mexican restaurant.  I would return to get my burrito on again.  4.5 out of 5.

Week 42 PT's for St. Patty's Day (Ft. Apache)

Kind of a bummer being we were supposed to go on a getaway this week-end. Always the way!! What Teray Says...
As you guys know we just moved into a new house a few months ago and we wanted to find a neighborhood bar kind of like they go to in our newest show obsession "How I Met Your Mother." Being that it was St. Patty's Day, we wanted somewhere that was not too far of a drive because of the wackos on the road, but also that had a great beer selection and corned beef and cabbage. 


It is crazy that I have lived here for so long and never have been to PT's. I used to be very against going to casual bars like that, but now that I have become more casual and calm  in my role of a married woman, I actually really like them. LOL.


PT's had a pretty good crowd for St. Patty's day. We couldn't get a seat at the bar, but we got a high top table near by. There wasn't any green beer, but really to me the look of it is pretty gross. I would rather just stick to Bud Light, which I did...followed by my favorite drink ever: the Bloody Mary. Brett got some black and something beer. It did not look good to me, looked like a lava lamp,  but he liked it. 

I thought we were getting a corned beef sandwich, but we ended up getting the dinner. I am still going to find a corned beef sandwich on rye somewhere. The corned beef was a very good portion size; you got two big pieces, potatoes, cabbage and carrots. It was very filling and perfect for the St. Patrick's Day theme. I still needed something after that so we decided to get the giant chocolate chip cookie sundae. That was the best part of the whole meal. Ice cream was oozing everywhere!! 

The prices were great, I think because we went during happy hour, but bar food is always pretty cheap anyway. Brett and I are pretty psyched that we have found our new spot to hang out at that is less than a half mile away. :) I rate PT's 3.5 out of 5 for fun and for making us feel like we finally found our neighborhood bar in our new neighborhood!

This week we went out not only for the blog but also to find our new "go to" bar for us.  Now that things with the house are settling down we needed to find a place close to our new home where we could get a few drinks and keep the cab fare cheap.  We decided to give the Sunset/Ft. Apache PT's; and what better day to check out a bar then on St. Patty's Day.  At our old place we were Putters people, so we weren't sure what to expect from their biggest competitors.  I also wasn't thrilled about not having someone I know working at the bar, I'm not really use to paying for all my drinks and food at a local bar.  Unfortunately I'm out of the industry and I don't have enough time to get drunk enough to get to know the bartenders...so going in blind is how we roll now.

I was surprised how big this PT's is, there is a large dining room as well as a good size bar area.  Besides the seating they also have two pool tables and a sports book kiosk.  I'm not sure how I feel about being able to place bets while I am getting drunk, as long as it doesn't take credit I should be fine.  I just like the fact that they have a couple pool tables and some Golden Tee, having a few drinks with a few games to play is the way to go.  They weren't all that busy for it being a drinking holiday but we were also there a little earlier then when their normal crowd shows up.  The service was pretty good considering there was a server and a bartender working.  We are so use to going to all these restaurants, I forget that this is the normal staffing for the local bars.  The server took good care of us and was pretty friendly considering we were nobodies, we never weren't getting drinks.  The only down side was that she brought us the wrong entrees...we ordered corn beef sandwiches and got the corned beef and cabbage dinner.  Not that big of a deal but worth pointing out, we didn't say anything because we were starving.

Overall I had a good time.  I will be going back, we might try one or two more bars but this seems like it will be a good fit for becoming our weekly spot.  Especially since cab fare is $10...with tip.  Prices were good, they have a couple happy hours that help out.  I rate them 3.5 out of 5, part of that might be that I am sour because I have never paid full price at a local bar.  But it is good enough that I will go back...pizza and wings next time.
