Week 17 Bahama Breeze

Hi Everyone! I can't believe we have been doing this for 17 weeks now! We are having so much fun with this blog! Again, thanks to our new Facebook followers and if you haven't already check out our Facebook page, we updated it frequently with all blog related things.

So, before I begin to review, I need to give a shamless promotion. We the newlyweds, Brett and Teray would really love to win this trip to Hawaii that the radio is giving away. Please take a second and vote for our dog Hannah to win the Real House Pet of Las Vegas contest. You can vote once a day, so the help would be really appreciated!!
What Teray Says...
This week Brett chose to go to Bahama Breeze. A while back Jose from Patty's Closet suggested for us to go there as well and this week our friend Leslie suggested it, so we knew it was a place we would need to visit. When I posted it on the Facebook page, we got a lot of great feedback, so I was very excited to head there and try all the amazing things that everyone suggested.

Bahama Breeze is located on Howard Hughes right by UNLV. I could not believe how big the restaurant was when we pulled up! That place is gigantic!

We were seated right away when we arrived right next to a Palm tree which I thought was pretty cool. The place reminded me of Jamaica, even though I know it was supposed to be the Bahamas. Our waitress was very friendly and helped us with drink selections right away. I asked her if they had skinny drinks, but I found out they actually were debuting them a few days later (so guys as you read this, there are now many skinny drink choices at Bahama Breeze). I chose a frozen Bahamarita, taking the waitress's suggestion and Brett choice a mojito, because it is one of his favorite drinks. The Bahamarita was one of the best drinks that I have ever had. The Vegas pool scenes need to pick these up because I'd be drinking them all the time.

We had to get a jerk type appetizer because when we were in Jamaica on our honeymoon I was sick as a dog and could not eat anything but the smell of the jerk is something that stuck with me. We decided to get the jerk chicken wings (8) and let me tell you, they were amazing. The wings were such a big size and the sauce was absolute perfection. Again, something I would love to eat very often. The wings were so big that someone could probably order it as a meal.

Because I was full from the wings, I decided to make an appetizer my dinner. I chose the crab claws St. Thomas. I love blue crab, so I figured an appetizer portion would be perfect. It basically was a ramekin size bowl of crab with a ton of bread, like a whole loaf. Dipping the bread in the buttery crab sauce was amazing, and the crab was even better. I could not eat it all though and gave it to Brett. He seemed to enjoy it as well.

Brett ordered coconut shrimp, the dinner size. I was thinking about getting that but because I have had it before, I tried to branch out, plus I probably would have eaten two shrimp and passed it off, because that is normally my style lately. LOL. From the one shrimp of Brett's that I did taste, it was amazing. The coconut was the perfect amount of sweet and the shrimp was perfectly crispy.

We finally got dessert this week; I was hungry enough! We decided to go with the pineapple upside down cake because it seemed like the traditional dessert that people would get at Bahama Breeze. I wish I had my own cake and didn't have to share with Brett because it was so delicious, moist and chocolatey (I think I just made up that word) that I was eating it like I was going to the electric chair. I need to learn how to make that dessert!

While waiting for the check, I looked around and snapped some shots of the scenery. I always feel weird when I do this but in Vegas I guess it is normal, because half the people are tourists.

Overall, I really loved Bahama Breeze. I cannot wait to go back for a happy hour and get a skinny drink. There were also so many menu items I wanted to try, that again it is another reason that I would go back there. Due to our amazing food and awesome service I rate Bahama Breeze 4.5out of 5.

What Brett Says...

I know I say it almost every week but I drive around all day for my job, this is yet another restaurant I drive by quite often.  So this week I chose for us to venture to "Bahama Breeze."  I  later found out it is a chain, but it seems to be the perfect place for Vegas.  "Bahama Breeze" is located at Flamingo and Paradise on the NW corner.  As we parked my initial thought was that the place was going to be busy and that it looked the part of a Caribbean theme.  Once we walked in my opinion changed slightly; it continued to look the part and it was busy but what surprised me the most at how absolutely gigantic this place was.

One thing that caught me most about Bahama Breeze was the service, for a place this big and busy we only had one person taking care of us.  Usually a restaurant of this size and it being a chain the server would have a server assistant and/or a busser.  But no, a single person, our server's name was Lindsey.  What makes this so weird is that Lindsey was awesome, she was fun and had a great personality.  You could tell she knows the menu and how to talk to people.  She was attentive, followed up at the right times and even passed a few server tests that I put her through.  As for the layout of the restaurant; like I said earlier it was huge, but not in a weird big.  The place was broken up into different areas all while keeping everything integrated.  My one suggestion is to move the live music to the main room so everyone could enjoy it, we found out on the way out it was in one of the few segregated areas.  I know we took a couple pictures so I will let those describe more of the physical feel.  I did enjoy that we were sat at a booth that allowed us to stretch out and relax, the booth could seat up to 6.

I had barely eaten all day, so by the time we got there I was starving.  Not wanting to get ahead of myself I realized that it was Saturday night and I should be smart and worry about getting a drink before food.  I started with a mojito and later ordered one of their Aruba Red house beers; the mojito was good but didn't stand out, the beer tasted like beer.  After working 12 hours I was kinda hoping the mojito would hit that right spot, it unfortunately did not, still refreshing.  Following drinks we decided to order some wings to get us started, I was starving and Teray was hungry as well.  Not wanting to go to big on the appetizer we just ordered the Jamaican Jerk wings, only 8 of them.  This was good in theory, don't get me wrong those wings were fabulous, however thinking we were staying on the small side was completely wrong.  You know how when you order wings you either get the wing or the drumstick, both around 2 inches give or take.  These wings were the actual wings of chickens, each wing was the drumstick and wind attached and then some.  We legitimately had 4 chickens killed for our appetizer, not just any chickens...prize chickens, prob even won a medal at a county fair.  If I ever host a Super Bowl party I am catering the party with these wings, they were good.  Next it was time for entree's, we ordered them for all of you.  We figured we couldn't write a review of wings and booze...if we can let us know and I will set it up, I just need one of you to join us as our DD that night.  Teray ordered a crab appetizer for her meal, look up at the top and read her review about here meal.  I saw that even though I ate more of hers, it was good.  I decided to go for an oldie but a goodie, coconut shrimp.  The first thing that impressed me by the order was that they give you a good portion of shrimp (and sides).  The shrimp were good, I use to cook coconut shrimp at one of the restaurants I worked at, not as good as mine but good.  I can't believe how full I got off of finger foods.  We played it smart and responsible once again, yes we ordered dessert.  You are wondering why I said smart and responsible?  Well dessert is amazing and it is smart to eat amazing things and we were being responsible because we are looking out for you, it would completely irresponsible for us to not tell you about pineapple upside down cake.  This cake was a "single" order, if you haven't caught on yet everything is bigger then expected...yes gluttony.  The pineapple upside down cake was the perfect size for two people.  Just look at the picture to see what it looked like, to imagine what it tasted like imagine chocolate, sweet dessert sauce, a pineapple with a cherry all heated up to the perfect gooey temp.  Now multiply that by pi (3.14159265) and subtract 4.

Overall I would like to recommend "Bahama Breeze" to everyone.  It would be good for your dates, bachelorette parties, and whatever get togethers you all have.  If you have the opportunity to sit in the room with the live music that might be a cool addition to the night.  All in all not a bad little night; we ate good, drank decent, and had a good time.

I am giving them a 4 out of 5...portion size, service (Lindsey), and atmosphere got them that number.

Patty's Closet Outfit of the Week

Can I just say that I love that you guys are enjoying my outfits as much as the food reviews :).  It make me smile to read your comments on the blog and Facebook and that some of you go into Patty's Closet looking for the outfit I wore- that is friggin awesome! Anyway, of course thank you to Patty, Juan and Jose of Patty's Closet for providing me with my outfit of the week. This week I went to the Blue Diamond store which is located in Mountain's Edge. I wasn't sure at the time where were were going so I wanted something versatile. I loved this floral shirt because it is something I can wear so many ways. I chose to pair it over a tank dress, but I wore it with jeans today and it looked just as cute. The shirt is flouncy but has a wait band at the bottom so that it is very figure flattering. There are also slits in the sleeves. See the second picture for a close up.

If you haven't already make sure to check out Patty's Closet online at http://www.ilovepattyscloset.com/ for all the locations you can go to as well as their Facebook page because it is updated daily so you can see new items, new locations, their t.v. segments and more at: http://www.facebook.com/PattysClosetLV

Today I hit up the St. Rose Patty's Closet to find an outfit of the week and this week-end Brett and I will be going to Grind Burger Bar and Lounge so look out for those things. In the meantime, cheers to food and fashion fusion.

Week 16 Bootlegger's

Hi Everyone! This week the blog post is a little later than normal because I (Teray) have been sick. I am glad I felt well enough to out this week, even though we almost didn't make it. Again, thanks for all the feedback on the blog; we love that you guys are taking the restaurants recommendations! We know the majority of you get the link of the blog through our Facebook page, so if you haven't already check it out. We have daily updates, pictures, etc.

What Teray Says...
This week I chose to go to Bootlegger's for Italian food. Normally this time of year Brett and I always go to the San Genaro feast and have been since we both moved here, but because I was feeling under the weather, we couldn't make it but I still wanted my Italian food fix. A few week's back Brett bought a Groupon for Bootlegger's which included two glasses of wine, an appetizer and two entrees for $48.

Bootlegger is located on Las Vegas Blvd. over by the outlets. When you go in the place is very big. There is a bar and dining area. The decor is very old school with lots of famous people on the wall. The color of the red walls is what I want to use as a paint color when Brett and I get a house. I really wanted to ask the owners what color the paint was, but I didn't. LOL.

We were seated right away and a waiter came right over. We told him that we had a Groupon and he guided us in the right direction as of what to do. I guess the Groupon had been very popular that week. We started with wine, and what a shocker, Brett and I both got Riesling.

The waiter put our appetizer order in right away and while we were waiting we got these garlic knot type things that were to die for. I am a huge garlic fan; everything I cook with normally has some type of garlic in it. (Just ask Brett). I could not help but look around as we sat there noticing a piano, more pictures of famous people, and the gorgeous decor. Within a short amount of time our appetizer arrived which included: calamari, fried ravioli, and shrimp scampi. The shrimp scampi probably was some of the best that I have ever had in my life. The fried ravioli was perfectly done, because it was not too greasy, which we all know I hate when it comes to fried food and lastly, the calamari was to die for and I tried to pick out all the pieces that looked like they had octopus legs because those are my favorite, even though the circle type ones that look like rings taste the same.

After enjoying our appetizer, Brett ordered some more wine (I ended up having to give him most of my wine because it was not mixing well with my antibiotics). Brett decided to order the special which was a 12 oz bone in pork chop and I ordered one of my favorite Italian dishes of chicken franchese which came with  fettuccine alfredo. I took one bite of Brett's and can say it was very tender, but he will speak more on his food. My chicken franchese was absolutely to die for! The chicken was very thick and cooked to perfection. The franchese sauce was not too lemony, but just the right amount of thickness to not be too rich. The alfredo was fantastic, and such a treat for me because it is something that I never even entertain eating due to calories. I ate almost every single bite because it was so fantastic. I would compare it to chicken franchese back home in NJ which is a huge compliment because NJ is the capital of Italian food.

My chicken franchese

So we had dessert for the first time in a few weeks because no matter how full I am, I never would pass up dessert at an Italian restaurant. Of course I had to pick my all time favorite dessert of cannolis. The cream inside was perfect thickness and not too sweet and there was the exact right amount of chocolate chips. There as one for each of us, and it was a very decent size.

Overall, I would rate Bootlegger's a 4 out of 5. I am a very harsh critic when it comes to Italian food but this place is amazing. I would love to return there next time and try another pasta dish and dessert. I also would love to sit at the bar because the people over there looked like they were having a lot of fun. This is definitely a place to go for a romantic date, and that is just what we did.

What Brett Says...

So after 15 weeks of random restaurants my New Jersey Italian wife chose an Italian joint. "Bootleggers."  What made it better is I found a Groupon to get another prix fixe meal, you can't beat paying a set price for multiple courses.  If you aren't familiar with "Bootleggers" it is just south of the outlets at Las Vegas Blvd and Robindale, east side of the blvd...kinda obvious.  I drive by it often, always thought it was a upscale Vegas locals bar.  It is but with a nice restaurant surrounding that bar.

This week I will start with the food.  Like I said we had a prix fixe; it came with an appetizer sampler, two entrees, and two glasses of wine.  The sampler was some fried calamari, fried ravioli, and some shrimp scampi.  Out of the three of these the ravioli was the best; he other two were something you would expect from "Fazoli's," neither were bad but lacked much of a flavor...the ravioli was pretty bomb though.  As for my entree I chose to get the special; the 12oz bone-in pork chop with potatoes and asparagus.  It was good, again nothing stood out but I would order it again.  The meat was tender, the sizing of the entree was more then I expected, and the potatoes had an original flavor...what that flavor was I don't know.  To round it out I ordered a glass of the only Riesling on the menu, what can I say...it was wine and it was good.  We took it beyond the prix fixe and ordered dessert this week...cannolis.  I can happily say that the cannolis were awesome, there were two and good size.  The filling was good, I'm talking old Italian grandma good.

The next part of this review will be short and sweet, about the service.  Service was good; drinks and refills were prompt, the staff was friendly and helpful, and timing was right.  I don't remember our servers name and I couldn't pick him out of a line up but he was good.

As for the atmosphere.  We were sitting in the restaurant part of the establishment, which was extremely nice and well organized.  At times you kinda feel like you are on the outside of where all the cool kids are...you can see the bar, you can hear the bar, and you think you might be part of the fun but you know in reality you aren't.  I think there needs to be more separation of the two...or more integration of the two.

I know this review is shorter then most of mine, sometimes it is hard coming up with enough of the clever funny things you all tune in for...because lets be honest, you are here for my opinion on restaurants not Teray's outfit of the week (yeah I know I am just pumping up my own ego).  I can't really blame you though, she is a hottie.  But in all seriousness I think you can take my lack of substance as a good indicator of "Bootleggers."  It wasn't good enough to rave about and it wasn't bad enough to tear apart.  I think they are just confused as to what they want to be, are they a good Italian restaurant or a local bar...if they want to be amazing I think they need to choose one of the two and push more in whatever direction that is.  The food was good, but more bar quality than stand out restaurant.  The service was good, but I wouldn't go back just for that.  I would like to try it again but on a weekend night at the bar, I think it might be a little bit better.  Since I go with a 5pt rating scale I have to go just on the upside of average...Bootleggers gets a 3 from me.

Patty's Closet Outfit of the Week
Thanks to Patty, Juan and Jose of Patty's Closet for providing me with and helping me pick out my outfit of the week this week. I love what I wore this week because it is extremely versatile and grey is such an easy color to wear. One sleeve is a normal short sleeve while the other is a boat neck type style, so it falls off the shoulders on both sides, giving it kind of an 80's vibe. There is also embellishment of silver, copper, and gold stud detail. I wore this dress on Sunday with a tank dress underneath so that it wouldn't be too short, but yet I wore it again today with jeans as a top. I love when outfits can be used in more than one way!

This outfit can be found at the Blue Diamond and Cimmaron store. The booties I am wearing I bought a couple of weeks back at the Rainbow store. If you haven't already you should check out Patty's Closet online at www.ilovepattyscloset.com and like them on Facebook to see the clothes each store gets every week http://www.facebook.com/PattysClosetLV

Until next time, cheers to fall, fun, food, and fashion. xoxo

Week 15 Rhythm Kitchen

Hi Everyone! Thanks to all of our new Facebook followers and people who have retweeted our blog on Twitter. If you haven't already please take a minute and like our Facebook page. We update it daily with stuff about the blog.

Brett and I had a Living Social coupon for Rhythm Kitchen and we both have been dying to try it, so that is what he picked this week. Rhythm Kitchen is located in the Southwest on Decatur and Sunset. The place is a lot bigger than I thought it would be. I remember tasting samples of their food back when I used to go to bridal shows with my family, but the main meals exceeded my expectations.

What Teray Says...

Rhythm Kitchen has a totally romantic atmosphere. I love places like this, especially on Saturday nights. Until about a month ago I had never been out to eat with Brett on a Saturday night because he always had work, so I am loving this routine of date nights on Saturdays now.

When you enter the hostess offers you the choice of sitting in the lounge where you can get happy hour prices, in the bar, or in the dining room. We chose the dining room again to make it most date like, plus I was dressed up. :)

As soon as we sat down in our booth we had someone come over to get our drink order and welcome us. Our server's name was Vincent and he had a training partner named Chris. I will just say that Vincent is the best server we have ever had in all of Las Vegas, and we both have lived here about 4 years and eaten at a lot of places. Brett and I started off with some drinks. Brett got the Abida Amber which is a southern beer. I chose my normal MGD 64. Anyone that knows me knows that I love the beer waters as I like to call them (MGD 64 and Bud 55). It also is great for me because I don't stress about the calories as much.

We got a basket of bread and hush puppies. I had heard from a few friends who read on the facebook page that we were going to Rhythm Kitchen that we must try the hush puppies. Yea, well they were right. Those things were outstanding. They are like little balls of this corn bread type thing with a veggie inside. (At least I think that is what it was) Either way, beyond delicious!

Going through the menu, Brett kept saying he wanted to try alligator tale. I was extremely hesitant because I have seen episodes of the Jersey Shore where JWoww and Snooki get sick eating alligator, but I figured the goal of this blog is to try new things so I would suck it up and do it. Our server asked us if we wanted it blackened or fried. Not liking fried food really besides french fries I was happy that we chose blackened and that is what the server recommended (we normally take the recommendations).

To my surprise, alligator tale is not green. I know, very childish of me, but when you have never seen a food or even remotely wanted to try it, you don't know what to expect. I have to say it may have been one of the best things that I have eaten in awhile, and I would definitely get it other places if it was on the menu.

After looking over the menu for awhile, we really wanted to go with something that was authentic southern, cajun food. I chose the craw fish duette which was fresh and fried craw fish. I always wanted to try craw fish since Britney Spears used to talk about how she ate it in Louisiana. Brett ordered the BBQ ribs with some sauteed mushrooms.

I tried Brett's ribs and they were amazing. First the portion was gigantic, it was like a rack and a half and the meat literally fell off the bone when you bit into it. The mushrooms were also outstanding and melting in my mouth. My craw fish was fan-friggin-tastic. It was served over cajun rice with roasted veggies. I don't know if I mentioned this in previous blogs, but normally when we go out to eat, I eat about half of my food and get full. I think it is my mind playing a trick on me so that I can eat it again later, which is exactly what I did two hours later was finish it when I got home.

I didn't have room for any dessert. I would have loved to have some, but I was just too full. Overall, due to the amazing food, and the beyond outstanding service I definitely without a doubt rate Rhythm Kitchen a 5 out of 5.

What Brett Says:

This week we decided we needed some Louisiana food; throw in a Living Social deal and we land ourselves in "Rhythm Kitchen."  They are located @Decatur and Sunset.  We always seem to drive by this place, always saying we need to go.  Each time we drive by we are amazed at how big it is and how misplaced it seems.  Not only is it a freestanding building dedicated to the restaurant but it is in a part of town without much around it...I'm guessing the owner got some real estate early.  It looks like a large Louisiana state home, one owned by someone rich.

This week I have to start the actual review with what I think was the highlight and the deal maker...the service.  We had Vincent as our server and Chris as his shadow, if you go make sure you sit in his section.  I am usually super critical because I use to be a server and I know how absolutely easy it is.  Anyone that tells you being a server is difficult is telling you that they need to rethink their career choice.  While I say it is an easy job I will also say it is easy to suck at it as well.  Doing the actual job itself is monkey skills, going above and beyond takes the skill.  Vince hits the nail on the head with his technique, by far the best server I have dealt with in this town and up there on the list of ever had.  He is attentive without seeming overbearing; he never tried to push us into a decision but he always had a suggestion when asked; he has personality without trying to be the star of dinner.  I can also tell he is good because his second server, Chris, was also attentive and quite, which in my experience shows that Vince is someone that people trust to work with.  When a second server has more personality than the server it is horrible, you can tell they are trying to make up for the server's downside...this was not an issue.  Vince just did a good job making a great meal into a great experience, I would feel comfortable going back and just having him make all our decisions.

Now onto another great aspect...the food.  They have a pretty extensive menu, but not to the point it is a novel.  We usually try to start with an appetizer, this week was no exception; I kinda pushed for the Alligator tail.  I say I pushed because Teray was a little reserved with the idea.  We ended up getting an order, blackened not fried.  Other then being a little on the small side the app was awesome.  I am personally happy we got them blackened, sometimes frying food kills the flavor...depending on how often they clean their fryers.  I also had a couple beers through the meal, a Louisiana wheat beer, I would recommend.  As for my entree, I was torn.  Here we are at this southern restaurant; I really should get some creole food, but they had all you can eat catfish, then again crawfish and shrimp past sounded good.  So what do I land on?  An order of ribs, sauteed mushrooms, and veggies.  Don't ask me how I ended up getting an order of ribs, I do NOT regret it at all.  It was a rack and a half of pork baby backs, wet with sauce.  The mushrooms were amazing and the veggies were, well veggies.  The meat fell off the bone and it was delicious.  I ate a rack there and brought home half a rack.  Throw in some of their rolls and hushpuppies and we were stuffed.  Another week with no dessert, I apologize to all of you for not having dessert for the 3rd or 4th week in a row.  I promise to make up for it next week, don't tell Teray but I have a feeling we will be ordering multiple...shhhhh!

The other thing that needs to be touched on is the physical restaurant.  Well, it is two floors and it feels like it is a huge southern house.  They have multiple dining rooms on the first floor, a bar/lounge hidden around a corner.  You wouldn't even know the lounge is there unless you ask or get lost.  Then there is an upstairs where they do their banquets and New Orleans Saint's games...apparently a very large screen is involved.  Aside from all that the restaurant it gorgeous, the seating is elegant, the decor is upscale, hell they even have a live piano player (quality music to set the mood).

I think I have went into enough detail, but in case you have ADD and spaced out here is the recap:
-Sit in Vince's section
-They sell beer
-Alligator tale, ribs, and hushpuppies are good
-They sell beer
-Football is involved, big screen
-Real life piano player
-They sell beer
-Really big house looking building

-Rating is an easy 5 out of 5

Patty's Closet Outfit of the Week
First of all I would of course like to thank Patty and Juan of Patty's Closet as well as Yasmine of the St. Rose store for providing me with my outfit this week. I never really get to hit up the St. Rose store because the Rainbow one is two blocks from my house, and the Blue Diamond one is about 5 minutes away, so they are in my travels. I have to say the St. Rose store (purple store) is so worth the drive. I need to add it in my very frequent Patty's routines more often!

This dress has to be one of my favorite outfits that I have ever wore. I already have an occasion in my head where I am going to wear it again. It is a sweetheart neck (which is my favorite style). It cinches at the waist with a black band and a gorgeous feather flower sequined detail.  The skirt is a bubble skirt. As you can see this dress is black and white. Black and white to me is beyond classic and can be dressed up or down. I wore this dress with flats because I ran a 9.11 k that day, but in the future I will be dressing it  up with heels.

Thanks to all the followers who message me that they go into Patty's Closet because of this blog and of outfits that they have seen. That is so beyond awesome. If you haven't already check out all of the locations on Patty's website: www.ilovepattyscloset.com and definitely like them on Facebook because they post a lot of their new inventory and upcoming events: http://www.facebook.com/PattysClosetLV

Until next week, cheers to fun, food, and fashion.

Week 14 India Palace

Happy Labor Day!!! Thanks to all of our new Facebook friends. If you haven't already and could take a minute and like our Facebook page, we would really appreciate it! http://www.facebook.com/thenewlywedsguidetovegasrestaurants

What Teray Says...
This week was my turn to pick and I went with some place that I bought a Groupon for awhile back for India Palace. India Palace is over on the east side right by UNLV. I was very nervous about the neighborhood, which I am with half of the places that we go to, but Brett seemed calm so I went with the flow.

We were seated right away. India Palace is not what I expected inside. It actually is a kind of swanky place on the inside, meaning fancier than I thought. The walls are different colors and there is Indian pictures everywhere and decor. There are also flat screens playing Bollywood music videos (which are sooo risque- haha!), and the bar is a beautiful set up.

As soon as we sat down someone came over to our table; Brett and I decided to both order water (which thankfully we did because there was a DUI checkpoint on our way home). We also were brought these cracker type things with three different sauces. Two of the sauces were so spicy they burned my throat but I loved it because spicy things are some of my favorites.

For bread we started with this garlic Indian bread, to see the exact name check out Brett's portion, because he has had Indian food before, and I haven't so I am not too familiar. You were given four slices which looked like pizza slices. I didn't think garlic bread was very Indiany (I know that is not a real word) but it was very tasty. The portion size was great for two people.

It took a little while for us to decide what to order. Brett ordered a Kahari goat dish and I ordered lamb curry. Everyone else seemed to be getting their food quickly, but oh wait...not us. After waiting for about 50 minutes our waiter comes over and asks us if we are ready for the check. Everyone knowing me, I hate confrontation, but was so famished I blurted out "Check, maybe when we get our food first." I immediately put my hand over my mouth in shock. I guess the waiter forgot to put in our order and blamed it on the computer. So overall it took well over an hour to get the food.

When our food finally did come out we were served white rice and our portions. In the meantime, everyone that talked to us really didn't seem that concerned about it. They just gave us more bread, which wasn't even Indiany like I said before. I was very disappointed that they didn't offer to comp our meal.

As for my lamb curry, there as maybe five little pieces of lamb. At this point I was so hungry that I ate them in about two seconds. Brett's goat wasn't not up my alley at all. The texture almost made me puke. At this point I was so over this meal that all I could think about was going home and eating one of my Skinny Cow ice cream sandwiches.

Like I said, I was not impressed at all with the food or the service. I was really excited about Indian food but this put a damper on the whole situation. All I can say is thank god for good company. Overall, I rate India Palace 2 out of 5. I would like to eat Indian food again though so please share your suggestions!!!

What Brett Says...

This week Teray and I ventured back to the east side of the valley to
have a go at "India Palace."  Teray had a Groupon deal for them, $13
for $26 worth of food.  Going into this week I was ready...I know
Indian food.  Growing up I spent all my time with an Indian family;
when my parents were at work they took care of me.  According to my
mom I use to speak Hindi fluently, I use to "pray" as a Muslim, and I
ate their food any chance I got.  Aside from that I have eaten at
Indian restaurants all my life.  I don't remember much of my
alternative identity as a blonde haired Indian child, but I do
remember the smells like it was yesterday...they say smell is the
sense tied strongest to memory.  Based on that I can tell you India
Palace smelled authentic.  When you pull into the parking lot you
realize 2 things...1-This place looks like a dump and 2-It's pretty
small for a "palace."  Read on to see where things went from there.

Walking through the door completely changes your view.  You go from a
shady looking parking lot to a very authentic looking restaurant.  All
of these authentic places are following the same format; shitty on the
outside, awesome on the inside.  The other common theme is music
videos from the country of origin; let me tell you, Indian music
videos are way better then American music videos.  India Palace is a
small to moderate sized establishment, small bar and maybe 20-25
tables.  Everything was comfortable, the lighting, the seating the
music was a little low (better then too loud).  We were seated at a
booth, we just took a couple minutes to take it all in.

Our server came over; we were still just looking around (in no rush)
so we just asked for water to start with.  After a little bit we
started with an order of Garlic Naan bread, one of the few things I
remember from my childhood was how great the bread was.  It wasn't too
overwhelming being it was garlic, think more pizza garlic bread.
After a few more minutes we decide to order our entree, I went with
Karahi Goat (diced goat stir-fried with bell peppers, onions, and
spices) and Teray went with Lamb Curry.  We were excited, everything
smelled good and everyone else around us seemed to be enjoying their
meal.  While we were waiting we had a good time talking, we even
bought a Groupon for another week.  After 45 minutes the waiter came
over and asked us if we were ready for the check...wait, the check?
Teray just blurts out "Yeah, after we get our food."  At this point I
just about laughed my ass off.  If you know Teray you know she isn't
big on confrontation...that's my department.  The server had this
confused look on his face, the kind you would expect after finding out
your table hasn't gotten their food he put in over 45 minutes ago.
Knowing the restaurant industry I knew he forgot to ring it in.  I let
him know that he could bring us some more bread while we waited.  He
then proceeded to run to the kitchen to beg the cooks to get the order
out as fast as possible.  After a couple minutes who I think is the
manager came by to ask us how our meal was, well I let her know.  She
was surprised that our order was well over 45 minutes (my guess more
like an hour).  She immediately offered us drinks on the house, which
we declined...good thing too since we hit a DUI checkpoint on the way
home.  We finally got our food, it was hot and smelled good.  The
manager came back by to check on us and let us know that she took one
of the orders of bread off our bill.  This presents another problem to
me, I know that when you screw up and take forever on an order it is
customary to give the guest something quick and simple to satisfy
them.  You DO NOT bill them for it.  She said she took it off our bill
like she was doing us a favor, as opposed to doing what should have
been done in the first place.  As far as the actual food goes, it was
delicious.  I would eat it again, just not from India Palace.

India Palace lost all my respect with how they handled things.  I know
how a restaurant is supposed to run, this place failed on every level.
Not only did the server not check on us when he thought we had
already eaten but he didn't know we didn't get our food for over 45
minutes.  Which means he didn't stop by our table that entire time.
While I appreciate the manager offering us a round of drinks, she
shouldn't have tried to sell their customer service by taking off an
order of bread we never should have charged us for.  In fact, they
should have offered to take an entree off our bill or offer us free
dessert.  We usually try to taste a dessert from each place we go.  We
do this because we enjoy dessert and secondly to give you all an idea
of what each course tastes like.  We opted not to order dessert
because we didn't have another hour to kill.

Needless to say I give India Palace a 2 out of 5, the food is about
the only thing that got them that rating.  I might even be generous
giving them a 2.  Next time we eat Indian food we will be going to
another place, maybe a buffet just to play it safe on time.  So...do
not eat here, that is unless you have to kill a couple hours and don't
mind horrible service.  I think they just need to thank Teray for
being there, had she not been they would have heard some friendly
advice from yours truly.  Until next week...Thanks for reading our
blog.

Patty's Closet Outfit of the Week
Hey fashion lovers- Teray again! Just wanted to of course thank Patty and Juan of Patty's Closet for providing me with this week's outfit and Jose of Patty's Closet for helping me pick out my outfit as always and listening to all my random chatter each week that I go into Patty's. This week I hit up the Mountain's Edge store which is on Cimmaron/Blue Diamond. I got this awesome top that is a copper color with black zebra stripes and sequins around the neck. Everyone that knows me knows my two favorite things are animal print and sequins so it was meant to be. The leggings, sandals, and bracelet are also from the Mountain's Edge Patty's. Note: As you guys may have seen on Patty's segments for the MORE show, you should not let your butt hang out in leggings. The reason I am wearing leggings with this is because the shirt is long enough that it covers my butt. HAHA :)

I added this picture because you can see the color of the top better

So good news for all of you Patty's fans! They just opened a store in Summerlin on Saturday. It is gorgeous and they have awesome stuff. It is on Sahara and Ft. Apache in the plaza where the movie theater is. My best friend Cyndi and I went to the opening and we both got great stuff.

If you haven't already make sure to check out their website: www.ilovepattyscloset.com and their Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/PattysClosetLV

This week I will be heading to the St. Rose location for my outfit of the week. I love that store, I just don't get to it as much as I would like with my busy schedule, so I am beyond stoked!!!

Until next week, cheers to it being the last day of summer for most places but for at least a month more of summer for us Las Vegas people. :)
